Peckham has some of the oldest houses in the areas I cover. Parts of it are Georgian, most of it is Victorian, and in houses that old the work behind the wall matters more than the tile you choose.
Peckham, and the houses in it
Peckham grew in stages. Shard's Terrace and the western side of Peckham Hill Street survive from its Georgian planned expansion, and during the mid-nineteenth century housing spread north and west of Peckham Rye until it had filled almost all the remaining fields. Most of Peckham is in the London Borough of Southwark, with the eastern edge of SE15 in Lewisham, so which council you deal with for a skip licence depends on the street.
What that means for a bathroom or kitchen
In a Georgian or early Victorian house I expect floors that are out of level, walls that are out of square, and pipework that several people have added to over a very long time. None of that is a reason not to have a good bathroom. It is a reason to look properly first, set the tiles out from the room that is really there, and do the first fix and the plastering before anything decorative goes on.
